1) A passive audience are those who don't engage their brains with the media they're consuming and aren't really receiving a message nor getting an idea of the information they're in taking.
2) An active audience are those who are actively engaging their mind and open to learning new information through the media they read/watch. They are the direct opposite of a passive audience.
3) The Hypodermic needle theory is the idea that audiences are constantly passive and receive the information as if it were injected in them ; forcefully and subconsciously.
4) Newsround:
-Information/surveillance: a way to keep young people up to date with things they are aware of and in a form of actual news but for the younger generation
Vogue:
-Identity: vogue has a specific target audience of young women who typically, at that age, take pride in their appearance and enjoy dolling up so having a platform for tips on makeup and hair can be a guide for young women.
Friends:
Diversion/entertainment: a comedic, light, and hearty show that is comforting and a way to lighten your mood if feeling down. Each character has their own humour which can reach a wide range of people.
Modern Family:
Relationships: with 11 seasons, modern family show cases different ideas and situations families can find themselves in. Viewers often feel fondness for certain characters after consistently watching them unfold their character for a long period of time.
5) This prequel contains the life of animals who live beneath us and provides viewers without existing knowledge on marine biology, information. Additionally, the movements and actions of the animal pleasures the audience with a voyeuristic experience. It creates a thrilling feeling of discovery and visceral pleasure. Watching the way of life of others can divert you from reality and create and relaxing atmosphere; diversion/entertainment.
