Demographics and Psychographics

1. Media companies use information and data such as gender, age, social class, race, profession and location. They use demographics to group certain people and aim their product to a target audience by using this information.

2. Media companies are increasingly using audience profiling over demographics as the information received from profiling is more informative and useful to aiming a product at a target audience and can be used as a wider source to group certain characteristics.

3. 7 psychographic groups:

. "The Mainstream"
. "The Aspirer"
. "The Explorer"
. "The Reformer"
. "The Resigned"
. "The Succeeder"
. "The Struggler"

4.
1) "The Mainstream"- these are the people that see daily routines as fundamental and base their decisions in the form as "we" rather than "me".
2) "The Aspirer"- materialistic and attention seeking; they feed of others perceptions of themselves and lack confidence. They crave status.
3) "The Explorer"- Driven by new adventures and the thrill of discovery. Always seeking for a challenge.
4) "The Reformer" - Don't allow others opinions to dictate them. Incredibly independent and are aware of the social aspect they are living in.
5) "The Succeeder" - Very goal orientated and enjoy seeking rewards and prestige. Aim is to be in control in whatever happens.
6) "The Resigned" - mainly those of an older age range. Have old values and stubborn to being open minded and see other perspectives. have a basic aim and goal: to survive.
7) "The Struggler" - lack organisation and have no motivation. Stereotypical behaviours: heavy consumers of alcohol and highly processed food .

5. I think out of the seven psychographic groups, the one that sums me up/ suits me best is "The Succeeder" as I possess self-confidence and am quite organised in many aspects of my life. I enjoy working for things and receiving rewards for my actions as I believe hard work deserves praise. I also feel some sort of need to be in control of things that happen and occasionally give my brain a rest as I feel as though my mind is always busy.
